Susmita Maskey, a climber, public speaker, film maker, artist, educationist, and a postgraduate in English Literature has been climbing for ten years breaking the barriers in the male dominant field of mountaineering. Despite of her petit and fragile looking feature, she has not only testified human courage and endurance but also shown promising leadership skill in her three different Everest expeditions in year 2005, 2008 and 2011. Susmita is climbing all Seven Summits in 2013 and 2014 to become the first Nepali woman to do so. Along with Everest, the highest in Asia, Ama Dablam, Island Peak, Mera Peak and few more popular peaks in Nepal, she has climbed highest mountain in Europe, Africa, Australia and South America.
In 2010, Susmita started climbing project named as “Climbing for and with kids”, an interactive wall climbing and outdoor sports project aimed at reviving the confidence of children, aged 2-16 years, from various shelter homes and rehabilitation centers, in a constructive manner. This is now continued as “Climbing with Susmita 2013” through her NGO “Khudkilo” which aims in building healthy and responsible youth. Susmita is a MDG3 (Millennium Development Goal) torchbearer, Nawadevi Award recipient, participant of International Visitors Leadership Program, Peace Ambassador, and Goodwill Ambassador of Nepal Tourism Year 2011.
